(i'm not counting velvet among the "survivors" here, & eizen is. you see one, singular person from the main berseria crew survive to zestiria, & even then, we don't actually see maotelus-who knows how much laphicet's changed. The villains in this game are a standout for the Tales series, not only because they, too, have nuance, but because they feel integral to not only the story but also to the individual arcs of our main cast. The tales of berseria/zestiria interlock also drives me bonkers because. Berseria really runs with the idea that the side characters needed to have some backstories and depth, and I’m all for that. overall it kind of seems like this game's biggest theme (or, at least, the one that resonated most with me) is the question of "is life worth living after your happiness is stolen away from you?"
